Courthouse Technologies "Goes Green"
By Camille J Hannah
Concern for the preservation, restoration, and improvement of the environment is a responsibility that we all share. For their part, businesses and governments continue to pursue the long quest for "paperlessness". And let's face it, going paperless saves money! But the fact remains that Jury Departments inevitably generate paper. We print questionnaires, summons, letters, postcards, lists, reports; all at a significant cost to the Court's bottom line and to our environment. But now, Courthouse Technologies provides a solution to eliminate waste, save money and the environment.
The latest release of Courthouse Technologies' flagship Jury Management software, Courthouse JMS, boasts a design that allows the customer to determine, by default, exactly which reports need to be printed and which can be generated electronically (as PDF, Word, or Excel documents). And those that must be printed can be done so in several ways, resulting in the use of fewer sheets of paper.
Courthouse JMS now also supports duplex printing. Users can now print any document in the system on both sides of a defined sheet of paper, thus eliminating paper waste by half! Users can also specify the input paper tray on the printer of their choice, either letter or legal size, further eliminating wasted time and consumed paper. "Many of us grew up in a time when care and attention to the preservation of the environment was less of a priority. I am very proud to have helped design a solution that is so easily implemented, but impactful on the environment," says Thom Gravelle, Senior Software Developer.
To a certain extent, we in the jury business have to generate paper. It's a necessary part of our business. But do we really have to print quite so much? We hope that by providing options like these that our customers really will "Go Green" by "Choosing Orange".
