August, 2008 - Courthouse Technologies Introduces New High Speed Imaging and Data Capture Solution, Contracts with U.S. Federal Court

Courthouse Technologies announced today that we are completing development of a new, high speed, high output imaging and data capture solution for jury management. Courthouse IDS (Imaging Data-capture System) is specifically engineered to extract vital juror data from a large volume of qualification questionnaires or summons forms using conventional, high-speed imaging scanners. Courthouse is completing the solution under contract with the U.S. District Court.

Courthouse IDS automatically scans and reads returned juror qualification questionnaires or summons, extracts relevant juror data and updates jurors' records in the jury management system database. An image of the original document is securely stored in the juror's record and can be viewed or printed at any time. Juror responses that result in requests to be excused, disqualified, or deferred are also automatically updated and made available for disposition by jury staff.

According to Paul Arntsen, Courthouse Technologies' VP of Product Development, Courthouse IDS eliminates the risk of mistrial from the unreliability often associated with optical mark reader (OMR) or optical character recognition (OCR) systems. Arntsen is the original developer of the OMR system still used in most U.S. Federal Courts. "I wish this technology was available to me 10 years ago. IDS eliminates the hassle of monitoring and adjusting scanning equipment." With IDS there is no proprietary equipment or expensive forms to be purchased - a court's existing questionnaire or summons document can be used. Arntsen says, "In this solution there's no dependency on jurors following special instructions or using the correct type of pencil. Essentially there's no wrong way to fill out a form. And the forms can be placed in the scanner in any orientation -- the system automatically re-orients them." Arntsen adds, "I've seen courts that have banks of filing cabinets just for storing returned juror questionnaires which, with IDS, are unnecessary."

Courthouse IDS can be purchased either as an integrated component of Courthouse JMS or as a stand alone module and integrated with third party or in-house developed jury management databases.
